About the Program
The Study + Internship program in Madrid is designed for students who are aspiring professionals that want to distinguish themselves in an evolving global job market. The program allows you to make progress toward your academic degree and remain on track for graduation, while developing the top skills employers want you to gain by the time you enter the job market. During the program, you will intern at a local host organization while also taking our mandatory Global Internship Course and additional courses. Our diverse range of courses will provide you with a platform to excel academically, and your personalized internship placement will help you acquire professional experience from a global perspective and learn from professionals in an international context. Program options are dependent upon location, but may include: Semester, Summer, Part-Time and Full-Time Internships, and English and host language speaking placements. CEA CAPA Madrid Center
The CEA CAPA Madrid Center was founded to make study abroad in Madrid more accessible to students from United States. The Center is located in a historical building in the heart of the city, just yards from the Puerta del Sol metro stop, and features three classrooms, administrative areas, and multi-purpose student space. The center’s location allows students to be well-connected and within walking distance of Madrid's main landmarks and attractions.
The CEA CAPA Madrid Center’s intentional course list offers a focus on business and communication — ideal for complementing internship placements —as well as courses that are designed to increase your understanding of the diverse history, politics, and culture of Spain. Through the courses, you’ll be exposed to elements of the city such as monuments, museums, businesses, local food markets, and government agencies.
Faculty teaching at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center uses the city as an extended classroom, allowing you to not only acquire discipline-specific knowledge, but also create intellectual links between your courses and the city. Courses will help you grow familiar with your new surroundings and gain insight into how Spain fits into a globalized context.

Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by faculty selected by CEA CAPA and approved by UNH.
- Periodic homework assignments and final examinations will be administered.

Universidad Antonio de Nebrija
With an annual student population of about 5,000, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija prides itself on being "the smallest of the great Spanish universities." This highly ranked private university was founded in 1995 and named after the first grammarian of the Spanish language. In 1492, Nebrija presented the first-ever Spanish grammar book to Queen Isabel; today, teaching Spanish as a foreign language is a key activity, and the Center of Hispanic Studies at Nebrija is dedicated exclusively to Spanish language training.
In addition to Spanish language and Hispanic Studies, the university also offers a wide range of academic subjects taught in Spanish and English, such as art history, cultural studies, political science, and sociology. Courses are instructed by Antonio de Nebrija faculty through Centro de Estudios Hispánicos. Nebrija's small student population allows for personal attention and specialized studies.
Credit Transfer Information
Universidad Antonio de Nebrija awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Program Structure & Courses
For your CEA CAPA Internship program, you will simultaneously intern at your host organization, and take our mandatory Global Internship Course. Your internship work schedule will be established once you arrive, and may vary depending on your career field and host organization.
Internship Placement Duration and Hours:
You will intern at your host organization for 8-weeks and complete 20 hours per week (160 hours total). You will likely intern during standard business hours Mondays-Fridays and your placement may include in-person, remote, and hybrid work depending on the needs of your host organization.
Global Internship Course:
You will take the Global Internship Course alongside your internship placement. This professional development course is designed to accompany your placement so you can make the most of your internship abroad. You will learn how to understand and articulate the value of your internship through the lens of NACE Career Readiness Competencies that employers crave, which will help you stand out to future employers and graduate schools. You will also engage in live cultural discussions that will enhance your global perspective and intercultural awareness between your program location and the U.S. The course comprises of reading, writing, and verbal assignments, including building an e-portfolio, completing mock interviews, developing your online professional presence, giving a final presentation, conducting industry field research work, and more. You can also take advantage of additional CEA CAPA mentoring and career preparation workshops to complement what you learn in the course.
Credit Options:
You will receive academic credit for your internship abroad via the Global Internship Course and your performance at your internship placement. You will enroll in the course for 3 credits and complete 20 hours per week at your internship placement.
Additional Elective Courses:
In addition to taking the Global Internship Course and completing your internship placement, you will choose 1 additional elective course. You have a choice to add the course through Universidad Antonio de Nebrija (UAN) or through the CEA CAPA Madrid Center. This provides you with the opportunity to gain professional experience while also making progress toward your degree requirements and engaging in classes that afford a richer cultural experience.
Elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. UAN courses run for 4 weeks in June or July and align with the academic study program offered at the university. CEA CAPA Madrid Center courses run for 4-weeks in June. Overall, you may earn 6 credits.
Elective courses generally meet at various times Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. Your internship coaching session will meet weekly and your internship placement hours may take place Monday-Friday; the exact time of day and days of the week will be determined after you arrive.
NACE-Certified Career Coaching & Internship Placement Process
Once you’ve submitted your application and required documents for your internship program, your career development adventure will begin! You will be assigned your very own NACE-Certified Career Development & Internship Specialist, who will work with you one-on-one throughout pre-departure to guide you through the steps and deadlines of our Internship Placement Process. Your Specialist will be your main point of contact for your internship prior to your departure. They will be happy to answer any questions you might have, and will also provide you with personalized career coaching, as needed, so you are set up for success for your internship abroad.
In addition to working with your Career Development & Internship Specialist, during the Internship Placement Process you will engage with your In-Country International Internship Coordinator in your location and your potential host site supervisor. Your International Internship Coordinator will draw from your application materials to source and match you with a personalized internship placement that best aligns with your unique experience, skills, career interests, and goals for your internship abroad. Please also note, your host site supervisor will retain the final decision on the finalization of your placement, so it’s important to approach your interview with your host site supervisor with maturity, adaptability, curiosity, and commitment to both your career interests and the host organization.

All CEA CAPA students studying in Madrid have the option of living in a residencia while abroad. Residencias are off-campus accommodations located in the city of Madrid that house approximately 200 students. This housing option caters perfectly to students who want the peace and independence of having their own bedroom. The kitchen may be private and inside the bedroom or shared with the other students at the Residencia. Other common spaces are available. Living in a residencia will help students to immerse themselves in Spanish University life and culture and to be part of a huge University community, meeting national and international students.
Please note that Residencia A and Residencia B are not the same Residencia - they are located in different areas of the city. Theremay be more than one Residencia for each type. Please note that within the same Residencia rooms might not be contiguous or in the same floor and might be spread out within the Residencia.

Note: Additional cultural activities/excursions or required course-related activities may be incorporated into your final itinerary. You are advised not to make personal travel arrangements until you have the final dates.

Official Program Start Date. Students must arrive at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport on this date in order to be eligible for airport pickup. Students will then be transferred to their housing. |
